Job Workshop Series: Building a Resume

Having an interesting resume that stands out is very important. An impressive resume is what sets a person apart during an interview for whatever position they are applying for. The Resume Workshop provides constructive details on how to successfully construct an effective resume that will stand out.

Penny Hasseli is a Youth workforce specialist at a company called Career Source. Hasseli explains that “opportunities don’t just fall into your lap”. To get a good job and to obtain a healthy career you should start working at a young age. There are many things that one should consider doing such as “having good relationships with your teachers and peers” Hasseli stated.

Hasseli later on stated “getting straight A’s is not the most important thing, it’s more important to make good connections with a lot of people”.

Something that companies, and people who look at your resume would be impressive is how long you have stayed at a job. Additionally it’s helpful to send a thank you email after an interview, “it looks very professional when you do that” Hasseli stated.

These kind of help provided to students here are very helpful. She explained that when she “wished someone had told [her] how to write a resume when [she] was in highschool because [she] had to just google things and a lot of the times what’s on the internet isn’t always correct”

Haselli later on added that she is also here to learn from the students. She stated “a lot of the time has been [her] that’s doing the talking so [she is] curious to what the students can share with [her]”
